A peace that transcends all understanding!
I enjoy running, although I doubt if I will ever get the main prize in a race, as I run for fun and fitness. However, I am involved in a far more important race: the Christian race.
Whilst in Singapore with the Royal Air Force, I was invited to a church meeting by a colleague. There I heard for the first time how Jesus Christ provided the only way by which we can find inner peace. It was explained that to achieve this, we need to establish a new relationship with God. At the end of the meeting there was an invitation for us to make sure that we had peace with God. I decided to ask Jesus to forgive my sins and to become part of my life.
That was nearly 40 years ago and I can still say that Jesus has always been a true friend in every experience and difficulty that I have passed through. In 1985 I suffered a stroke from which God has graciously restored me. This was a very difficult period of my life but I can truly say that throughout that time the peace of God was present within me and I was able to trust Him as regards to my future. This peace transcends all understanding and guards our hearts.
As an athlete I may never win a major prize, but I agree with the Apostle Paul when he says I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.
